People often ask me why I wrote Nova's Wish.

The answer begins long before I ever put pen to paper.
As a child, I was captivated by the wonder of the holiday season - the first snowfall, skiing, twinkling lights, winter animals, and the feeling that something magical could happen. As I grew older, I wanted my own children to experience that same wonder.
Every year, I would secretly dress as Santa and walk past our house ringing a bell, staying just far enough away that my children wouldn’t recognize me. Watching their faces light up became one of my most treasured memories.
After more than 30 years of working with children, I came to understand how important it is for every child to feel special - not only during the holidays, on a birthday, at a baby shower, or during life’s other special moments. Children need to know that they are special simply because of who they are - today and every day.
That is where the heart of Nova’s Wish began.
I chose the North Pole because, to me, it is a magical place filled with wonder, wishes, and endless possibilities. But this story was never meant for only one season. Its message is for every day of the year.
At the end of the story, Nova doesn’t choose the smartest, fastest, or most perfect child. Nova chooses your child - my way of whispering, “You are special.”
If one child closes this book feeling special, believing in themselves, and loving who they are just a little more, then Nova’s wish - and mine - has come true.
